Tottenham Hotspur claimed a major win on Sunday night, beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park.

Spurs were reeling after their embarrassing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday night, crashing out of the Europa League in the process.

A trip to Aston Villa wasn’t ideal, but without Jack Grealish, Tottenham managed to take full advantage with a relatively comfortable victory.

Carlos Vinicius tapped home the opener following strong approach play from Lucas Moura and Harry Kane, before Kane added the second himself from the penalty spot having been brought down by Matty Cash.

A clean sheet is a welcome boost, and three points just ease the pressure on Jose Mourinho after a difficult few days for the Spurs boss.

His bold selection decisions paid off, having gone with Joe Rodon as Davinson Sanchez’s central defensive partner for just his fifth Premier League start.

The 23-year-old has endured a tricky season at times given that he isn’t registered for the Europa League, so he has been forced to be patient and wait for his chances.

On Sunday, Rodon turned in an impressive performance, helping nullify Ollie Watkins whilst making a great block to deny the Villa striker.

Fans have been taking to Twitter to hail the Welshman, branding him ‘immaculate’, ‘sensational’ and ‘immense’.

Others now want to see Rodon given a real run in the time for the rest of the season, believing that Tottenham have a real quality centre back on their hands now.
