Tottenham Hotspur have been told that Brighton and Hove Albion talent Evan Ferguson is ‘rubbish’ as Glenn Murray attempts to fend off interest.
Ferguson was on the scoresheet yet again on Sunday as Brighton hammered League Two side Grimsby Town in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The Irishman scored twice in a thumping 5-0 win, booking Albion’s place in the last four.
Ferguson’s first was a stunning goal as he brought the ball down perfectly before slotting home.
The 18-year-old powered in a left-footed strike to make it 3-0 before the Seagulls absolutely wrapped it up.
Former Brighton striker Glenn Murray was praising Ferguson before changing his approach and joking that the striker is actually ‘rubbish’.
Murray joked to BBC Sport that he doesn’t think Ferguson is any good, attempting ward off many interested clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
“Anyway, we’re live on BBC One, he’s rubbish! No-one come knocking for him,” said Murray in an attempt to fend off a number of suitors.

We can appreciate Murray’s attempts to make sure that Ferguson stays on the South Coast for a while yet.
Sadly for him and Brighton, everybody can see Ferguson’s quality and the interest in him is only going to rise.
The Sun claimed in February that Tottenham and Chelsea are both interested in signing Ferguson.
The Irish teenager has been compared to Harry Kane and Tottenham may well see similar potential in the young hitman.
The Sunday Mirror (26/02, p71) even added that Newcastle United are showing a strong interest in Ferguson.
Murray’s message to those interested clubs will likely fall on deaf ears given Ferguson’s quality and potential.
Ferguson has now bagged seven goals in 16 first-team games for Brighton and we’re backing the goals to continue flowing.
If Tottenham want to find an heir to Kane – or even sign a striker should he leave this summer – then Ferguson could be their man.
The potential is clear with Ferguson and their interest isn’t going to end any time soon no matter what Murray suggests.
