Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has had some heavy critics in recent memory – but Glenn Murray has heaped praise on him.
Dier has pretty much been a fixture of the Tottenham side ever since arriving from Sporting for £4million back in the summer of 2014.
Starting at right back, moving into midfield and now into central defence, Dier has performed in a number of positions for Tottenham.
Now with more than 300 appearances, Dier has been a long-serving player at Tottenham but not everybody is a huge fan.
Dier divides opinion at Tottenham, with some ultimately believing that Tottenham need better than Dier to really progress.
Last weekend, Dier came back into the side after injury and helped his side to a 3-2 win over Manchester City.
Dier certainly looked a little more reliable than Davinson Sanchez and can’t exactly be blamed for the midweek defeat to Burnley.
We would expect Dier to keep his place in Antonio Conte’s side, forming a back three with Cristian Romero and Ben Davies.
Former Premier League striker and current pundit Glenn Murray has spoken about Dier, heaping praise on the Spurs defender.
Murray told Sky Sports Soccer Special (23/02, 7:15pm) that he thinks Dier is a ‘massive’ player for Tottenham.

Murray, who faced Dier numerous times with Brighton, believes that he holds the team together and represents a cool head around younger players, playing a key role in making Spurs look more solid at the back.
“Eric Dier, he is massive, isn’t he, for Spurs,” said Murray. “He holds it all together, he knits them together. He’s a cool head amongst some younger heads, and with that five, they look so much more solid with Eric Dier in there,” he added.
Tottenham continue to be linked with other centre backs though, and there is still a chance that Dier ultimately gets phased out.
Signing a natural left-sided centre back has to be the priority, but don’t be surprised if Tottenham sign two centre backs this summer with Dier potentially the man to lose out.
