Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane suffered heartbreak with a missed penalty against France, but what is his total spot kick record?

England against France looked like the most tantalising encounter of the World Cup quarter-finals and it proved to be a very tight clash.

Aurelien Tchouameni’s piledriver handed France the lead before England were finally given a penalty with Bukayo Saka fouled inside the box.

Harry Kane stepped up to score but Olivier Giroud headed France back in front for what proved to be the winning goal.

England did have a golden chance though as Mason Mount was brought down by Theo Hernandez with Kane stepping up from the spot again.

As the nation held its breath, Kane smashed his effort over the bar and that was that; England out in the quarter-finals yet again.

How many penalties has Harry Kane scored and missed?

Many were stunned as Kane hammered his shot over the crossbar given that the Tottenham Hotspur striker is usually so reliable from the spot.

This was the 69th penalty of Kane’s career, at least according to Transfermarkt’s data.

They track that Kane has scored 58 of those 69 penalties, including 30 in the Premier League.

Kane scored three penalties at the 2018 World Cup before his only Euro 2020 spot kick against Denmark was saved by Kasper Schmeichel, with Kane tapping home the rebound.

After scoring one against France earlier in the night, Kane was charged with the task of beating Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris again.

Sadly, Kane recorded just the 11th miss of his career.

His total England record – including Under-21 action – stands at 18 goals and four misses.

Kane missed against Eintracht Frankfurt in October too, in eerily similar circumstances.

Kane scored a penalty earlier in the game but then smashed a second spot kick over the bar – just like he did against France.

58 goals from 69 penalties is far from a bad record and whilst some will now question Kane, we think he will have plenty more penalty success in the years to come.
