Tottenham Hotspur could firm up their interest in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the coming weeks.
That’s according to TyC Sports reporter Gaston Edul over in Martinez’s native Argentina.
Edul has taken to Twitter to claim that Tottenham have a ‘specific interest’ in signing Martinez this summer.
Edul adds that Tottenham may even make an offer in the coming weeks as they try to make an early start to their summer plans.
Martinez is probably one of many goalkeepers on Tottenham’s radar and Fabio Paratici may well be a big fan.
Yet with Tottenham’s manager next season unknown and Champions League football still to be secured, Spurs aren’t exactly in the best place to be trying deals.
We expect Martinez to be on Tottenham’s wish list for the summer but it may take a little while longer for a move to materialise.

Emiliano Martinez to Tottenham could cause controversy, but does make sense
The time has come for Tottenham to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper for the next few years.
Hugo Lloris has turned 36 and a number of errors in recent times mean Tottenham may need a new stopper come the end of the season.
Martinez has emerged as a top target for Spurs in a deal that may cause some controversy in North London.
Martinez spent time with Arsenal and decided to leave for first-team action in 2020, so a move to Tottenham inside three years of his exit may annoy some.
Tottenham won’t care about all of that and seeing Martinez in the World Cup with Argentina may have only cemented their interest in him.
The 30-year-old is under contract until 2027 so Aston Villa are hardly under pressure to sell the Argentinian this summer.
Yet Neil Cutler, who was Villa’s goalkeeping coach before the arrival of Unai Emery, suggested in January that he was sure Martinez’s agent was working on a move away.
“I don’t think he (Martinez) will up and leave right now, because Emi is happy. He will have his head down, but I am sure his agent will be working behind the scenes to try and find a Champions League club,” said Cutler. “It will be up to Villa to keep striving to get into Europe, because with the size of the club and the ambitions, that has to be the aim,” he added.
Add in that Emery and Martinez clashed over the goalkeeper going forward for a corner against Arsenal in February and a summer move wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
Tottenham may now be positioning themselves as the favourites to sign Martinez, bringing the stopper back to North London.
