Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to land Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez despite interest from Roma.
That’s according to Tuttosport, who claim that Spurs are leading the race to snap up Martinez this summer.
It’s highlighted that Martinez may well leave Villa this summer and a price tag of €30million (£26.5million) is mentioned.
We can’t see that being the case; Villa paid £20million for Martinez in 2020 and have seen him win the World Cup and be named ‘The Best’ goalkeeper in 2022.
Martinez is also under contract at Villa until 2027 having signed a new deal in January of last year.
To put it simply, Villa are under no pressure to sell Martinez for that kind of price and will surely demanding more for their star goalkeeper.

Tottenham face Roma battle for Emiliano Martinez
Tuttosport add that Roma are interested in signing Martinez too.
That may sound like Spurs will have to fight their former manager Jose Mourinho.
However, it’s stated that the pursuit of Martinez is actually tied to Mourinho’s future as Roma manager.
If Mourinho stays in the Eternal City, then current goalkeeper Rui Patricio will stay at the Stadio Olimpico.
If Mourinho goes then Patricio would move on and leave Roma to look for a new goalkeeper – such as Villa star Martinez.
That gives Tottenham some competition for Martinez but they would surely be in a strong position to beat Roma here.
Roma don’t have the biggest budget to work with and if Villa don’t price them out, then the chances of Tottenham overpowering them in this race is strong.
We can’t see Martinez heading to Roma any time soon and if Tottenham really are in pole position, maybe the former Arsenal stopper will be on his way back to North London this summer.
