‘No coincidence that Tottenham bought him’: Udinese boss seriously impressed by Destiny Udogie

Udinese boss Andrea Sottil has praised Tottenham Hotspur loanee Destiny Udogie and thinks he is ready for an Italy call-up right now.

Spurs moved quickly last summer and struck a deal worth £15million rising to £18million for Udogie.

Fabio Paratici seemingly realised that a number of clubs would want Udogie in the summer of 2023.

Tottenham chose not to fight them and instead sign Udogie last summer before loaning him back to Udinese for the whole of this season.

That allows Udogie to keep developing in Italy before heading to North London to become Tottenham’s left wing back of the future.

The 20-year-old is still a raw talent but three goals and two assists in 19 Serie A games this season is an indication of his attacking ability.

Tottenham will be excited by Udogie’s development and fans likely can’t wait to see him finally pull on a Spurs shirt next season.

Udinese boss hails Tottenham-bound Destiny Udogie

Udogie has been a mainstay of the Udinese side this season and his performances have been attracting attention.

Some have pondered whether Udogie is ready for an Italy call-up after an impressive campaign in Serie A.

Italy use the likes of Leonardo Spinazzola and Emerson Palmieri at left back or left wing back, but they are 28 and 29 respectively.

Udogie should be Italy’s future in that position but Udinese boss Andrea Sottil believes the time is right immediately.

Sottil has told Tuttomercatoweb that he thinks Udogie is ‘super-ready’ for international action with Italy.

Sottil is stunned by how easy Udogie is finding Serie A action and believes Udogie is a huge talent.

The Udinese boss added that it’s no coincidence Tottenham have paid relatively big money for a player so young, suggesting it’s a sign of his enormous ability and potential.

“You should ask coach Mancini, for me he is super-ready,” said Sottil. “I train him every day and I see him do what he does in Serie A, with disarming ease. It is no coincidence that Tottenham bought him, paying out several million euros for a player born in 2002. If you ask me, he is super-ready,” he added.
