Tottenham Hotspur want Denzel Dumfries and have now made contact with Inter Milan over a potential deal for the Dutchman in 2023.

90Min report that Tottenham have picked out Dumfries as a key target to bolster Antonio Conte’s side.

It’s suggested that Inter need to sell a star player in order to ease their financial problems.

That will sound familiar to Tottenham fans, who saw Spurs target Lautaro Martinez before Inter sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.

Tottenham are trying to get in very early for Dumfries though and Inter are open to a deal to sell him in January but take him back on loan until the summer.

Spurs would push to secure Dumfries immediately but if they can get him one way or another, a deal make sense for Tottenham.

Chelsea are also interested though, offering a threat to Tottenham’s hopes.

Dumfries a much better fit for Conte’s Tottenham side than Emerson

Appointing Conte ultimately meant Tottenham committing themselves to a three-man defence with wing backs.

That wasn’t exactly ideal news for Emerson Royal, who had arrived at Tottenham just weeks earlier and is more suited to playing in a back four.

Matt Doherty isn’t the long-term answer and Conte doesn’t quite seem to trust summer signing Djed Spence yet.

The door is open for Tottenham to land a natural, top-quality wing back and few in the world are better than Dumfries.

The 26-year-old has been playing as a right wing back for the Netherlands and with Conte’s former club Inter Milan.

Dumfries has impressive attacking output; five goals and seven assists last season as well as two goals and three assists this term.

Dumfries is very powerful – to the point where BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce call him a ‘freight train’ – supports the attack with quality and has proven himself to be a strong one-v-one defender.

Inter are likely to demand a huge fee for Dumfries but if Tottenham have a chance to get this deal done, they have to push for it.
