Toby Alderweireld is expected to start for Tottenham Hotspur against Newport County in the FA Cup tonight.

Toby Alderweireld may be under more pressure than any other Tottenham Hotspur player, when they take on Newport County later this evening.

Spurs are set to host the League Two side at Wembley in an FA Cup replay, which they should cruise through.

Tottenham struggled against Newport in the first leg, but the poor start of the League Two side’s pitch did come to their aid.

Of course, Tottenham won’t want to be complacent, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side really should come out of the tie as comfortable winners.

Pochettino is expected to make a number of changes for the fixture, with fringe players likely to be handed opportunities.

Alderweireld could also make Spurs’ starting line-up, with the centre-back due to return from injury.

And the pressure will be on the Belgian to prove his fitness, ahead of the North London derby.

Alderweireld has not played for Spurs since November last year, after he picked up a hamstring injury, but a big performance tonight could put him right back into contention.

Alderweireld is one Spurs’ finest players, and a key influence at the back.

And if Alderweireld can prove his fitness and sharpness with a big performance against Newport County, then Pochettino may just give him the nod to start again, when Spurs take on Arsenal at the weekend.
