The Belgian spent January-April out of the Tottenham team.
Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen looks dejected
The Belgian national team has found itself shorn of defensive options recently. Captain Vincent Kompany is out of the European Championships. Yesterday saw the same fate for Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata and Zenit St Petersburg rock Nicolas Lombaerts as the Manchester City star.
Not ideal preparation.

One defender that has been passed fit is Tottenham Hotspur star Jan Vertonghen. He is expected to play at left-back in France but has had his own fitness worries this season.
Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws this week Vertonghen admitted he was feeling fit currently and that he tries not to worry about fitness issues:
“I myself feel very fit, but that’s no guarantee. It can always happen, but hopefully we all now keep fit.

“On injuries you should never think too much, because just then you become injured. I give myself always 100 percent and keep myself out. We also do a lot to prevent injuries and try to ensure that our body is strong enough.”
Vertonghen suffered a knee injury when taking a tumble from Connor Wickham back in January. He did not play again until April and at times struggled to find his best form after his comeback.

It even led some to suggest that Vertonghen should not have come in to replace Kevin Wimmer, who stepped in admirably, after his injury had cleared up.
He will no doubt be aiming to prove that he is fully fit when facing off at the Euros with the Belgian national team.
