Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose set a team best in their weekend win.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose returned to the team at the weekend after missing the Dortmund game, and delivered a composed display as he helped the side to a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Rose is no longer thought of as a weak link in the Tottenham XI, instead his performances have dictated that he is perceived as an asset.

In the win at Villa Park, Rose set a team record for the season, recovering the ball 14 times – more than any Tottenham defender has done in a single game in 2015/16, bettering his own and Kyle Walker’s previous bests.

In comparison to midfielders, Rose’s figure of 14 matches up too. Mousa Dembele has recovered the ball 14 times in three separate matches, but no higher. Last season’s Rose’s best figure was 10, as it had been this campaign up until Sunday’s match with Aston Villa.

Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt has the best record of any defender in the league this season, recording a figure of 16, while last season Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny won the ball back 20 times in a game against Sunderland.
