Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies praises ‘leader’ Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur will be preparing for their Champions League encounter in Germany on Tuesday.

Ben Davies has hailed Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale as a ‘leader’ and a ‘joy’ to play with after he was asked whether he can see him potentially returning to Tottenham Hotspur.

Left-back Davies sat on the fence when he was asked the question by reporters as he simply stated that he doesn’t know ‘if that’s possible’.

Both Davies and Bale play alongside each other for Wales and have taken to the pitch on a number of occasions, including their memorable run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

Tottenham will be preparing for their second-leg Champions League last-16 encounter at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night, with the pre-match press conference taking place on Monday.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (04/03/2019 at 5:20 pm), Davies was asked by reporters about whether he can see Bale making a return to North London and he issued this honest response.

“I can’t really comment on him coming to Spurs, I don’t know if that even possible,” Davies told Sky Sports News.

“When we play with him with the national team, he’s a leader, he loves his football and he loves being the man with the talent in the team. He shows us, sets the example on the pitch and is a joy to play with.”

During their last two transfer windows, Spurs have opted against signing any players but that has not affected their Premier League standings or Champions League progress.

They are sitting third in the table ahead of the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United, all of whom have spent more money than Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Added with that, if they can defend their three-goal lead in Dortmund on Tuesday night then they will put their name in the hat for the quarter-final stages of the Champions League.

As for Bale, he moved to Spain in 2013 and since that high-profile switch to Madrid, he has won everything on offer on the domestic scene, including winning four Champions League trophies.
