Tottenham Hotspur like David Carmo but Manchester United have now held two rounds of talks to try and sign the Braga defender this summer.
Tottenham and United both seem to be in the market for a left-sided centre back this summer.
For instance, both clubs are being inked with Villarreal star Pau Torres.
Ben Davies has played that role in Antonio Conte’s three-man defence at Tottenham but isn’t a natural there.
United have a host of centre backs but none of them are naturally left-footed, leaving Erik ten Hag to consider new signings.
Left-footed centre backs were key for Ten Hag at Ajax with both Lisandro Martinez and Daley Blind playing key roles.
Tottenham Hotspur like David Carmo, Manchester United in talks
It now seems that Braga star Carmo is wanted by both clubs.
The Mirror reported in May that Tottenham were looking to sign Carmo as their new left-sided centre back.
A £20million fee was suggested with Tottenham looking to secure the Portuguese defender’s signature.
Borussia Dortmund were also thought to be keen but have since signed Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg.
Yet now the Manchester Evening News report that United have held not one but two rounds of talks with Braga to sign Carmo.

There is still hope for Tottenham though as Carmo is considered a ‘fall-back option’ if United can’t sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
Timber has become a star under Ten Hag at Ajax and there is a real possibility of them reuniting at Old Trafford.
Timber and Carmo are completely different though; Carmo is a huge presence at 6ft 5in tall and left-footed whilst Timber is small for a centre back at 5ft 10 but is very quick and right-footed.
Just how Carmo is considered an alternative to Timber when they are completely different styles of defenders is anybody’s guess.
Yet it means that if Tottenham want to sign Carmo, they may need to move quickly before United turn their full attention to him.
