Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has offered congratulations to Manchester United ace Lisandro Martinez after his Carabao Cup final win.

Romero and Martinez are Argentina international teammates and were in the World Cup-winning squad together.

The pair know what it takes to win and Martinez added another piece of silverware to his record.

The defender was outstanding yet again as United kept a clean sheet in their 2-0 Carabao Cup final defeat of Newcastle United.

Martinez was able to celebrate more success and took to Instagram to lap up the praise for this big win.

Tottenham ace Martinez was right in there, simply saying ‘claro que si carnicero’ – or, in English, ‘Yes of course butcher’.

‘Butcher’ has been Martinez’s nickname for a while now, a nod to his aggressive style of play.

Romero saying ‘of course’ is almost like he expects this kind of success from Martinez – which is understandable after winning the World Cup.

Cristian Romero will want Lisandro Martinez’s success at Tottenham Hotspur

Romero will of course be delighted for his international teammate.

Martinez and Romero figure to be the future of the Argentina national team when it comes to a centre back pairing.

Nicolas Otamendi’s days are surely coming to an so Romero and Martinez may well be the partnership for years to come; one that few attackers will want to face.

They will continue to build each other up but Romero will want to experience some success with Tottenham too.

Winning the World Cup together is one thing but Martinez has now won silverware in England.

Romero will want to do the same with Tottenham and ultimately end their long, long wait for a trophy.

Few could blame Romero for being a little envious, but hopefully Martinez’s success just drives Romero on to experience that same joy with Tottenham in the future.
