Cristian Romero missed Tottenham training today but Antonio Conte hasn’t ruled him out from facing Sporting on Wednesday.

Tottenham fans will have been heading to watch Sunday’s clash with Newcastle United whilst having confidence of a positive result.

Yet when the team lineups came out at 3:30pm, many will have been aghast at the absence of defender Romero.

The Argentinian wasn’t even on the bench with the official word being that Romero had a ‘minor injury’.

Cristian Romero missed Tottenham training today

Tottenham return to action again on Wednesday as they host Sporting in the Champions League.

Fans will be hoping for Romero to be available but that now looks to be up in the air.

Sky Sports reported from Hotspur Way this morning and stated that Romero was not involved in training.

That will leave Tottenham fans believing that there is just no way Romero makes it back to start against Sporting.

However, Antonio Conte has given fans hope by stating that he will check on Romero on Wednesday morning.

Conte has told Football London that there is a chance for Romero and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to recover and they won’t be ruled out until tomorrow.

“Richarlison and Kulusevski they are out because they are recovering but still not ready,” said Conte. “Romero and Hojbjerg tomorrow morning we will see if there is the possibility to try and recover them,” he added.

This will give Tottenham fans renewed hope of Romero pulling through and facing Sporting.

With the World Cup just around the corner though, Tottenham won’t want to take too many risks – especially with Romero set to feature for Argentina in Qatar.

Romero is Tottenham’s best defender and it’s very noticeable whenever he is missing.

Davinson Sanchez didn’t exactly cover himself in glory against Newcastle on Sunday and is a real drop-off from Romero on the ball and in terms of defensive awareness.

If Romero is out against Sporting, Sanchez will surely start again and that won’t exactly fill fans with confidence as they hope to see a big Tottenham win.
