The French striker has been in fantastic form for Celtic.

Chelsea have reportedly taken an interest in signing Moussa Dembele from Celtic. Record Sport are claiming that Celtic will not be selling the player, but have slapped a whopping £40 million price-tag on his services should Chelsea decide to push for his signature.

All of this will surely be a blow to Tottenham Hotspur.

Celtic snapped up Dembele on a £500,000 compensation deal this summer after he became a free agent at Fulham.

But one year ago Spurs were in the hunt for the player. They could have signed the French talent, but instead passed. It was reported by the Guardian at the time that Fulham pulled the plug on the deal, as they wanted to keep him on loan until the end of the season. Spurs were having none of it and the result was a bitter end to the transfer negotiations.

But 12 months on and Dembele’s value has risen exponentially. Meanwhile, Tottenham have failed to find the right back-up striker to Harry Kane – with Dutchman Vincent Janssen seemingly not up to the mark.

Spurs could have had the Celtic striker for just £6 million a year ago today and judging by his recent form they might have been better doing just that.
