Clinton Morrison has criticised Clement Lenglet and Ryan Sessegnon after Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Newcastle United.

Tottenham were looking for a response after losing 2-0 away at Manchester United in midweek.

However, it was more of the same as Tottenham struggled going forward and were undone defensively.

Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron had Newcastle 2-0 up in the first half before Harry Kane headed Tottenham back into the game.

Tottenham couldn’t find a leveller though and had to accept a second defeat in a row.

Tottenham will feel very disappointed with Newcastle’s two goals.

The first came as Hugo Lloris rushed off his line and lost the ball to Wilson, who lofted the ball into the net.

Lloris was then heavily criticised for his role in Newcastle’s second too.

Attempting to play the ball out from the back to left wing back Ryan Sessegnon, Lloris underhit his pass and Sean Longstaff nipped in.

Almiron then beat Sessegnon, blazed past Clement Lenglet and slotted past Lloris.

This was just error after error from Tottenham and much of the criticism has been sent the way of Lloris.

Yet pundit Clinton Morrison has now pointed the finger of blame at Lenglet and Sessegnon too.

Morrison added that it was ‘poor defending’ from Barcelona loanee Lenglet before heaping praise on Almiron for his run and finish.

“The kick from Lloris is not good enough but Sessegnon is not good enough. Poor defending from Lenglet as well but it’s all about Almiron. He just tucks it under Lloris and it’s a great finish,” said Morrison.

Conte seems to like Sessegnon at left wing back but it’s fair to say that Tottenham just haven’t seen him hit the heights expected of him after his move from Fulham.

As for Lenglet, the Frenchman is playing for a permanent move to Tottenham given that he isn’t wanted at Barcelona.

It honestly still feels like he is just a stop-gap until Spurs can splash out on a new left-sided centre back in 2023, and
