Tottenham are set to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona as Antonio Conte secures himself a left-footed centre back for the coming season.

Tottenham made a quick start to the transfer window by securing three signings.

Experienced duo Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic arrived on free transfers before midfielder Yves Bissouma joined from Brighton.

Conte still needs more new arrivals; a left-sided centre back, a right wing back and a versatile attacker have to be brought in.

Djed Spence and Richarlison look to be the top targets for the latter two, whilst it’s now looking like Lenglet will be the left-sided defender.

Tottenham are set to sign Clement Lenglet

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Tottenham are now close to signing Lenglet on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

There will surely be a permanent option included in that deal given how desperate Barcelona are for cash.

Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol have been prime targets for Tottenham but Lenglet looks to be their man.

Lenglet, 27, cost Barcelona £32million back in the summer of 2018 having excelled for Sevilla.

The Frenchman has played 160 games for Barcelona whilst picking up 15 caps for the French national team.

A capable passer out from the back, Lenglet offers a natural left-footed option for Tottenham and may just buy them time.

Lenglet may not be the long-term answer but he buys Tottenham another year to really think about their long-term future in that role.

Lenglet would probably admit himself that his form at Barcelona has really tailed off, and it will now be down to Conte to get him back to his best.

What’s interesting is that Tottenham allegedly made a move for Lenglet last summer but he actually rejected the move.

It now looks like second time lucky for Tottenham, who will hope to have deals for Lenglet and Richarlison secured in the coming days, taking Conte’s summer influx to five.
