Tottenham Hotspur have come in for strong criticism since losing to NS Mura, and Chris Sutton has analysed their squad.
Antonio Conte’s men went away to Slovenia on Thursday night and somehow managed to lose 2-1.
Conte was understandably unhappy with that result, suggesting that the squad simply isn’t at the level needed.
We can now expect Tottenham to go into the transfer market in search of new faces to bolster Conte’s squad.
Fabio Paratici has a major job on his hands to bring quality to this Tottenham side, with the top four seeming like a pipe dream at the moment.
Pundit Chris Sutton has now spoken to the Daily Mail about Tottenham’s squad and their defeat in Slovenia.
Sutton feels that losing to Mura is one of the worst defeats the club have ever experienced.
Sutton did add that, if you wrote down the names in Tottenham’s squad, you’d actually think they’re pretty good.
Hugo Lloris, Cristian Romero, Son Heung-min, Harry Kane… even the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon, they’ve all played at a high level in the past.
The problem for Sutton is that he feels Tottenham are ‘so disjointed that it’s downright sad’, accusing certain players of being ‘meek’ as Conte faces a major battle.
“That Europa Conference League loss to NS Mura was totally embarrassing — one of the worst defeats in Tottenham’s history,” said Sutton. “It underlined the size of Conte’s task. He’s a winner who’s walked into a club with a losing mentality and changing that is going to be his greatest challenge.”
“Write down the players’ names on a piece of paper and you’d think ‘that’s a good squad, that’s a team who can compete for trophies’. But they’re so disjointed that it’s downright sad. There are characters there who seem so meek. Conte’s got a hell of a job on his hands if he’s to maintain his excellent record as a manager,” he added.
