Tottenham Hotspur are in action tonight as they take on Southampton, and youngster Charlie Sayers has been in training ahead of the game.

Tottenham play their first Premier League game in more than two weeks tonight, hosting Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Antonio Conte will be looking for his side to take confidence and momentum from Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Brighton.

Tottenham released a video of training on Tuesday, and some eagle-eyed fans may have spotted some interesting faces.

One of them was defender Sayers, who was spotted next to coach Cristian Stellini at 3:14 in the video.

Sayers may not be a familiar name to Tottenham fans, mostly because he hasn’t actually been a Spurs player for very long.

Sayers, 17, joined Tottenham from Southend United in December having already made six first-team appearances for the non-league side.

Capable of playing as a left back or centre back, Sayers is seen as a real talent for the future.

In five outings for Tottenham’s Under-18’s, Sayers already has two goals and appears to have caught the eye of Spurs coaches.

That skillset may appeal to Conte given that he likes a left-sided defender in a back three.

Conte has converted Ben Davies to play as a left-sided centre back, switching from an out-and-out left back.

Sayers being able to play in both positions may leave Conte feeling that he can get something out of the teenager down the line.

It’s very unlikely that Sayers will be involved in the Tottenham squad tonight, but you just never know.

At the very least, this is a great experience for Sayers having trained against top-drawer Premier League players on Tuesday.
