Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele’s future at the club was hanging in the balance before the semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley.
Dembele has just one year remaining on his current deal, and The Telegraph reported his desire to extend it by three years and hand him a pay increase to £100,000 per week was a major stumbling block.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to meet these demands, giving him a decision to make this summer as to whether he should cash in.
After the semi-final at Wembley, Levy’s decision has got a lot easier.
It was not the result which was damaging for Dembele, as for Tottenham not much has changed, but the Belgian’s performance was terrible by his high standards.
It is fair to say he flopped on the big stage, and was bullied off the ball by Paul Pogba to set up United’s equaliser for Alexis Sanchez to score.
Dembele was substituted off in the second half having made no impact as Spurs chased the game.

Now is a pretty terrible time for him to go into Daniel Levy’s office and ask for a pay rise.
If middle ground cannot be found between Dembele and Levy, then the Belgian could be on his way this summer.
