Tottenham Hotspur are taking a slow approach to their rebuild and are focusing on appointing a young coach – with Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou an outlier.

That’s according to The Times’ reporter Gary Jacob, who has been speaking to beIN Sports in light of Antonio Conte’s meltdown.

Conte launched a stunning tirade on his own players after Saturday’s 3-3 draw away at Southampton.

The expectation is that Conte will be leaving when his contract ends this summer – but possibly even sooner than that.

Tottenham will surely be looking at potential replacements for Conte and Jacob has given an insight into their approach.

Jacob suggests that Tottenham are predominantly focusing on young up-and-coming coaches to come in and take a slower approach than the likes of Jose Mourinho and Conte.

Jacob believes Ange Postecoglou is the only real exception but still fits the coaching mould that Tottenham are ultimately seeking to replace Conte.

“Spurs are looking at other managers, they’re looking at various up-and-coming managers, perhaps the exception slightly being Ange at Celtic, who’s slightly older, but all the managers they’re looking at are coaches and they seem to kind of accept that this time, it’s going to be a coach rather than what they tried before with Jose and Conte as a ‘winner’, because that’s not worked,” said Jacob.

“I think they’re going to back to a slight reset of going back to the model they had in the past with people like Martin Jol and Pochettino and kind of slowly go and build with a coach,” he added.

Ange Postecoglou won’t be easy to lure away from Celtic

Interest in Postecoglou is natural given his superb spell at Celtic.

The Australian wasn’t so much a consolation prize for Celtic in 2021, but his arrival from Yokohama F. Marinos only came after the Bhoys missed out on Eddie Howe.

Celtic pivoting to Postecoglou has worked out brilliantly having won the league title last season and another one is imminent.

Postecoglou has brought brilliant football to Celtic – the kind of style Tottenham fans are longing for under Conte.

The 57-year-old doesn’t quite fit that ‘young’ model Tottenham want but his ideas are very progressive, which may be why Spurs are willing to make an exception.

Landing Postecoglou won’t be easy though; he has recently told The Sun that people would be ‘surprised’ by how long he stays at Celtic.

Only a top offer will lure Postecoglou away from Celtic and Tottenham may be a rather enticing offer for the Australian.

We can imagine that Tottenham have other targets ahead of Postecoglou, so Celtic fans shouldn’t worry just yet, but his brilliance will always attract interest from Premier League clubs.
