Tottenham Hotspur can still sign Suso, but it would cost them £44m

Tottenham may have missed their best chance to sign former Liverpool talent Suso.

Tottenham Hotspur might just have missed out on their best chance to sign Suso from AC Milan this summer.

Talksport reported in July that Spurs were plotting a £19 million swoop for the former Liverpool starlet… now it could cost them twice as much.

Now after protracted negotiations, Suso has signed a new contract at AC Milan which takes him up until 2022.

This would normally be the end of such matters, but Milan have taken the unusual step in their case of inserting a release clause into the contract.

Calcioblog and Football Italia report Suso’s release clause is worth in the region of 50 million Euros (£44 million).

This would mean Tottenham would have to pay an even higher fee for Suso than they splashed out in a club record move to sign Davinson Sanchez.

The 23-year-old has three goals and two assists in seven appearances this season, and scored seven and provided nine last season.

Having missed out on him at a fraction of the fee this summer, at present it does not appear Tottenham would make a move.

Yet if Suso has a strong season – and Tottenham lose a key player like Dele Alli for a £100 million plus fee – then suddenly buying the Spaniard for £44 million would not seem so steep.
