Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are reportedly battling to sign the 20-year-old.
According to The Mirror, Arsenal have thrown their hat in the ring to sign £45 million Bordeaux winger Malcom. The Brazilian attacker, 20, has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur and, according to The Daily Mail, chairman Daniel Levy had a £31 million bid turned down earlier this month.
Arsenal seemingly want him to replace linked-away Alexis Sanchez, but if Tottenham can sign him instead then it might just contribute to the destruction of the Gunners’ season.
Arsene Wenger’s side are two points behind fifth-placed Spurs, and five behind Liverpool in fourth. Their top-four hopes hinge on finding an adequate replacement for the Chilean, but there’s not many names being touted.
Malcom, who has seven goals in 16 Ligue 1 starts this season, certainly seems like a suitable candidate, but what should worry Arsenal fans is the limited alternatives and failing to sign him might well be a disaster for the North Londoners.
Thomas Lemar is a name that will inevitably crop up now and again, but Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested in the Monaco star and it takes a vivid imagination to consider the idea that he would snub Anfield for the Emirates at the moment.
At £45 million, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can go that high, but if they can, and do, then signing him will put their North London rivals up a very well-known creek and it’s hard to imagine them emerging unscathed – especially when Danny Welbeck is one of the paddles.
