How good would Tottenham Hotspur be if that triumvirate produced regularly?

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen all found the net in Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-0 thrashing of Swansea City at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot, before Son made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time with a fine scissor kick for what was his first goal in 11 matches.

The English hitman grabbed a second shortly after the break, before Christian Eriksen – who bagged his first Premier League goal of the season last week – added two more in the final 20 minutes as Spurs got their groove back.

They remain seven points behind top-of-the-table Chelsea, but just how good would Mauricio Pochettino’s side be if all three chipped in with more goals regularly.

There was a considerable amount of negativity surrounding the Lilywhites in the days building up to the visit of the Swans, having gone down 2-1 at Stamford Bridge – yet again – but yesterday was a glimpse into a very bright future if Pochettino plays his cards right.

Despite the Tottenham fans’ requests, they cannot play Swansea – who have now shipped 16 goals in their last five league matches – every week, but Kane, Son and Eriksen have goals in them and Spurs would be nigh-on unstoppable if the latter two pulled their weight in the goalscoring department against better sides.

Son, to his credit, did his bit in the six weeks that Kane missed through injury, but his form tailed off, whereas Eriksen was rightly criticised for not scoring enough.

They scored 10 goals across 63 Premier League appearances last season. It’s not enough, but Son certainly looks a different animal this time around and the Dane might well follow, having now hit three in his last two matches.

Tottenham’s trident won’t inspire the same level of fear as, say, Messi, Suarez and Neymar, but it doesn’t need to. When Toby Alderweireld is around, they’re one of the best in Europe as far as defence goes. They don’t let many in – 10 conceded in the Premier League, the best in the division – which means they don’t need to score many.

What they do need, however, is reliable sources of goals when Kane isn’t at the races and if the last seven days is anything to go by then Eriksen and Son can still be those guys. It could make the world of difference.
