Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen has admitted that he is still a Tottenham Hotspur fan amid claims he could head back to North London.

Tottenham travelled to West London on Saturday evening as they took on Brentford in a crucial clash.

Having seen Arsenal beat Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, Tottenham had to win in the race for the top four.

Unfortunately for Tottenham, they produced a disappointing display. Antonio Conte’s men couldn’t even manage a shot on target in a 0-0 draw.

This was an emotional occasion though as Brentford midfielder Eriksen played against Tottenham for the first time.

Eriksen was a fan favourite in more than six years at Tottenham before leaving for Inter Milan in January 2020.

Disaster struck last summer though as the Dane suffered a cardiac arrest whilst playing for Denmark at Euro 2020, putting both his career and his life in danger.

Eriksen recovered and is now back playing. Inter were forced to release Eriksen as he wasn’t allowed to play in Serie A whilst being fitted with an ICD, so Brentford were more than happy to swoop in.

With heavy influences from Denmark both on and off the pitch, Brentford have been the perfect club for Eriksen.

Eriksen has made a huge impact and hasn’t lost a single game whilst starting for the Bees.

Eriksen went close on a couple of occasions against Tottenham on Saturday and looked at his creative best before going over to clap the Spurs fans.

This comes amid claims from 90Min that Tottenham are in fact confident of re-signing Eriksen this summer.

Eriksen worked with Antonio Conte at Inter and Tottenham seemingly want to secure an emotional reunion with their former star.

The 30-year-old has now told Sky Sports that he hopes to see Tottenham finish in the top four this season.

Eriksen admitted that that he is still a Tottenham fans and will always have that connection – just like many who have played for Spurs in the past.

“Yeah, of course!” said Eriksen. “I’m still a Spurs fan. Ask anyone here, anybody who has played at Spurs is still a Spurs fan when they leave. Definitely, I hope they get in the Champions League,” he added.

If Tottenham do get into the Champions League, Eriksen may well be back on Europe’s biggest stage in a quite stunning turn of events in recent years.
