Tottenham Hotspur continue to show a strong interest in signing Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson having scouted him regularly.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that Tottenham are scouring the EFL for potential summer signings.

Johnson is thought to be one of them, with Tottenham continuing to show a strong interest in the Welsh international.

It’s suggested that Tottenham are ‘regularly’ watching Johnson ahead of a potential summer move for the wide man.

Johnson, 20, has emerged through the Forest ranks and is now a first-team star.

Championship defenders have been terrorised by Johnson all season with his electric pace and trickery causing mayhem.

Johnson has racked up 15 goals and eight assists in 41 Championship games this season, shining down Forest’s left flank.

The nine-cap Wales star could end up playing at the World Cup later this year – and Premier League teams will want to get in there beforehand.

Tottenham are in the market for homegrown players and Johnson absolutely fits the bill.

You can imagine one of Lucas Moura or Steven Bergwijn leaving the club to free up a non-homegrown spot, with Johnson then coming in as a new wide option.

Johnson may also be viewed as the long-term heir to Son Heung-min with the South Korean now approaching his 30’s.

Johnson is incredibly highly-rated and Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has indicated that he can be just as good as Luis Diaz.

Tottenham missed out on Diaz in January as Liverpool swooped in to secure a deal. Diaz has been a sensation for Liverpool, taking the Premier League by storm.

It’s bold to suggest that Johnson is on a similar level, but MacAnthony believes the Championship is just as good as Portugal’s top flight.

Tottenham may hope that Johnson can make a similar impact in the top flight, but they will face major competition this summer.
