Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking about his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger in the press today, ahead of the side’s meeting in the North London derby this weekend.

Spurs face Arsenal off the back of a contrasting week for the two sides in Europe. Spurs lost at Wembley to Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen. Arsenal on the other hand won a dramatic fixture against Ludogorets Razgrad to book their place in yet another Champions League knockout stages.

Pochettino was asked about who the current best team in North London are, Tottenham or Arsenal, but made it clear the two were currently incomparable.

The Argentine is quoted by the Hampstead and Highgate Express as stating:

“After 20 years in charge, I think Arsene Wenger is doing a great job and it’s one of the most consistent clubs in the world.

“It’s very difficult to compare with a club like that. To be fair we cannot compare with Arsenal.

“We want to be one of the great clubs in the world but we are still building the training ground, our new stadium and we are building our squad and that’s very important.”

Pochettino’s point is that in recent years Spurs have not had a settled situation at the club. Now, with the Argentine at the helm Spurs are looking to have some stability and consistency at the club going forward.

As much as Tottenham criticise and poke fun at their rivals, Arsenal are a benchmark they will be thriving to meet.

Regular qualification for the Champions League has not been a theme at Spurs in the past. Under Pochettino it looks like something that might be achievable.
