Tottenham Hotspur are heavily linked with the Everton midfielder.

Speaking to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to confirm or deny speculation that he wants Everton’s Ross Barkley.

The 23-year-old Everton star has been linked with a move to Tottenham for most of the summer transfer window, but he remains at Goodison Park for now.

According to ESPN, Spurs would need the England international to lower his wage demands before they consider taking him to North London.

Although Pochettino refused to confirm his interest in the Everton ace, the Argentine manager did reveal that the Lilywhites were working hard to recruit new players.

“I think we have different targets and, like I say, I don’t like to speak about another player at different clubs. I am so respectful with that,” he told Football London when asked about the playmaker.

“We are working hard to try to bring in players, but that is a rumour and I cannot confirm anything.”

Tottenham kick off their season with a trip to Newcastle United next week and a new signing would boost morale ahead of that visit to the North East.

Spurs are the only Premier League club yet to strengthen and such inactivity in the market has not impressed their fans.
