Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino responded to Manchester United defender Luke Shaw’s comments about him at his latest press conference, which was covered by Football.London.

Shaw stated this week that he would like to work with Pochettino again, and he felt that the Argentine boss would also welcome a reunion.

The pair worked together at Southampton, when Shaw enjoyed the best spell of success over his career to date.

But when quizzed over whether he would take Shaw back, Pochettino would not be drawn on the subject.

He said: “Where? The book is the book. And you need to put the feelings in context. It happened with me, when I was a young player. You enjoy time with some people, you always regret that.

“But that only explains a feeling that was in the past. For me, I think maybe you like to speak about that because you’re very surprised about the book. It’s difficult to find another book, to read all and try to be honest and explain everything and not lie. That’s so important.”

Shaw has endured a fairly miserable time since moving to United, and he has struggled to break into the Red Devils’ first-team.

The England international’s fitness was regularly questioned by Louis van Gaal, and Jose Mourinho has also publicly criticised the left-back.

Whether Spurs actually have a need for Shaw is up for debate though. Tottenham already have two very strong left-backs in the form of Ben Davies and Danny Rose, and strengthening in that position is unlikely to be a priority for Pochettino.
