Tottenham Hotspur were shocked at the weekend, as they fell to their first defeat of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that both Danny Rose and Davinson Sanchez were not to blame for Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Newcastle United in Football London.

Tottenham lost 1-0 to Newcastle yesterday, in what was one of the shock results of the weekend.

Rose and Sanchez were both at fault for the goal which Tottenham conceded during the contest, as they allowed Joelinton to slip inside them and finish.

But Pochettino doesn’t feel that Rose and Sanchez were entirely to blame for Spurs’ defeat, and has taken responsibility for the loss himself.

The Spurs boss said: “Only if you see the end of the situation. We need to analyse, like VAR, we need to go back and see maybe 10, 20 or 30 seconds before what happened and why this situation arrived.

“We cannot blame them. First of all it’s to blame me and then blame the collective performance when you concede a goal like this.”

Despite Pochettino’s defence of them, Rose’s and Sanchez’s places in Tottenham’s squad most both under pressure now.

The pair have started every one of Spurs’s games so far this season, but have not opened the campaign in particularly encouraging form.

Rose could now be replaced by Ben Davies, while Jan Vertonghen is waiting to take Sanchez’s place.

Tottenham’s next game comes against Arsenal in the north London derby.
