Tottenham Hotspur are due to take on Chelsea in the League Cup on Thursday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino manager of Tottenham looks on during the Premier League match between Fulham FC and Tottenham Hotspur at Craven Cottage on January 20, 2019 in London, United Kingdom.

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested on Football.London that Tottenham Hotspur could start Lucas Moura against Chelsea on Thursday evening.

Moura missed Tottenham’s game with Fulham through injury, and he has not featured throughout 2019, after picking up a knee problem.

Moura is now close to making his return to full health though, and Pochettino has suggested that the Brazilian could be selected to start for Tottenham in midweek.

“We hope Lucas Moura, you forgot Lucas Moura was training today at the training ground,” he said.

“Lucas Moura is going to be okay. Today we didn’t want to take a risk with him but he’s is nearly 100 per cent to try to help the team. Maybe it’s not going to be Dele Alli but we are going to have Lucas Moura on the bench or maybe starting from the beginning. We’ll see how are going manage him now.”

The £23 million signing’s (BBC Sport) return could hardly have been timed better for Tottenham, as they are struggling for options up-front.

Fernando Llorente was picked to lead the line for Spurs against Fulham, but his showing was woeful.

Tottenham still managed to win 2-1 at Craven Cottage, but Llorente’s performance did little to show he was ready to replace Harry Kane.

Spurs’ injury crisis worsened at the weekend, with Dele Alli also damaging his hamstring.

And Moura could now have a lot of attacking responsibility resting his shoulders when he does return from injury for Tottenham.
