The Argentine winger was initially expected to miss just a few weeks, but his fitness problems have been more severe than predicted.

Lamela has been to visit a specialist with his hip injury, and returned to Rome to try and speed up his healing process.
However, the 24-year-old has still not shaken off his injury, and when asked how Lamela was at his press conference today, Pochettino remained coy.

“Erik Lamela is taking it step by step,” he said.
“The good thing is the injured players are all very positive, that’s important.”

Lamela was scheduled to return to light training last week, as Spurs look to nurse him back to full health.
The skilful wide man was expected to play a key role for Tottenham this season, but injury has hampered his progress.
Tottenham are next in action this weekend, when they take on Liverpool, but Lamela isn’t expected to be involved.
