Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino played down Danny Rose’s comments.
Mauricio Pochettino has suggested to Football London that it is perfectly natural for his Tottenham Hotspur players to be ‘fuming and angry’ when they are not picked.
Danny Rose revealed in an interview with The Times this week that he was upset when Pochettino chose not to include him in the squad for Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.
But the 27-year-old put that disappointment to one side and impressed as Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League three days later, playing the full 90 minutes ahead of Ben Davies.
The Argentine has played down Rose’s post-match comments and claimed that other players of his squad felt a similar way when he dropped them for the victory in Germany this week.
He told Football London: “You can ask me about him or Nkoudou, who wasn’t involved, or Paulo Gazzaniga or Kieran Trippier or Ben Davies. If you say they were upset? Of course.
“They were disappointed? Of course. They were angry, fuming? Of course because they want to play, Michel Vorm the same. But I am the boss. That is the problem for the players.”
Tottenham face managerless West Bromwich Albion this weekend and it will be interesting to see who Pochettino chooses at left-back.
Rose also admitted after the Dortmund game that he was not as fit as he thought, having only started three games for Spurs since January due to injury, so Pochettino might well go back to Davies.
