Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino was really worried for Harry Kane and Harry Winks on Monday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told the London Evening Standard that he ‘hated’ watching England’s match against Bulgaria, as he knew how much Harry Kane and Harry Winks needed to win.

Tottenham have started the season in dire fashion, with the pressure building on their players.

Pochettino may actually have been glad of the international break, as it allowed many members of his squad to go away with their countries and try and regain confidence.

However, England’s squad came under fierce criticism after a defeat to the Czech Republic.

Pochettino was then worried that another loss to Bulgaria would simply worsen the mood of Kane and Winks, who both started.

And Pochettino admits that he really didn’t enjoy watching the England game, as he wanted to see the Three Lions win so badly for his players.

“It was a tough game against the Czechs and people were down,” Pochettino said.

“For our players, it continued the negative dynamic. I was hating watching that game, thinking, ‘We need to win, we need to win’, putting on my England shirt! After Friday, it was tough, but the best medicine is to score, assist, feel the victory and for sure that is going to help our team, too.”

Thankfully for Pochettino, England cruised to success against Bulgaria, with Gareth Southgate’s side picking up a 6-0 victory.

Kane and Winks both played really well in the contest, and the hope is that they can put in similar performances in the Premier League at the weekend.

Spurs take on Watford tomorrow, with the Lilywhites desperate to pick up the three points.
