Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott was given his starting chance in the first-team last night.
Parrott made his long-awaited senior debut for Tottenham yesterday evening, but was unable to continue his fine run of scoring form, as the Lilywhites failed to get past Colchester United.
Tottenham looked toothless, as they were embarrassed by their League Two opponents and knocked out on penalties.
Parrott was far from the worst performer on the night, and had a few glimpses of goal, but he was unable to really trouble the Colchester goalkeeper.
And Pochettino has admitted that it could be two years before Parrott is ready to start regularly for Tottenham.
“He needs time. For sure he’s going to be a very important player for Tottenham Hotspur in the future but he needs time, maybe one year, two year,” Pochettino admitted.
“We need to create space for young ones to find their natural space in the squad. We need time with the new signings as well. We’ve been unlucky with them.”
Parrott could be waiting a while before he gets another call up to Tottenham’s starting line-up, with Spurs now out of the League Cup.
Tottenham couldn’t break down a well organised Colchester defence, with a huge lack of creativity on display.
Spurs’s start to the season has now become very concerning, with the pressure building on Pochettino’s side.
