Tottenham Hotspur are due to take on Ajax this evening in the Champions League semi-final.
Tottenham were two men down against Bournemouth for almost the entirety of the second-half, and there were fears that those left on the pitch would be drained for this evening’s Champions League clash with Ajax.
However, Pochettino has swatted aside any potential complaints about tiredness with his squad.
The Tottenham boss claims that his players ran no further than usual, as they were placed in a low block once Heung-Min Son and Juan Foyth both were banished from the field.
He said: “It’s not a problem because do you think that they run more than they normally run? They run the same because we played a little bit deeper. It’s not an excuse, we’re going to be ready with all the energy. It’s not a problem to play with nine against 11. It’s not that you are going to run double.”
Tottenham ended up losing 1-0 to Bournemouth on Saturday, despite putting up a good fight.
It took until the last minute to break Spurs down, but they were eventually undone by a Nathan Ake goal.
Pochettino’s side’s form continues to be poor, but they have a wonderful chance to progress to a Champions League final tonight.
Tottenham need to overturn a 1-0 deficit in Holland to book their place in Madrid, where they would take on Liverpool in the final.
