Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told The Guardian that Dele Alli will not be fit for the start of the new season.

Pochettino has said that the injury sustained by Alli is minor, but the Spurs midfielder will not be ready for this coming weekend’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa, and he could possibly miss a few games thereafter.

The Tottenham boss has also stated that he is worried about the injuries sustained by the England international midfielder.

According to The Guardian, the 23-year-old midfielder has sustained damage to his left hamstring on four occasions over the last two years, and the former Milton Keynes Dons youngster did not play against Inter Milan in a pre-seasn friendly on Sunday.

Pochettino told The Guardian: “I don’t believe Dele is going to arrive for the start of the season. I think it’s the same area [as previous injuries]. We are worried.

“He is still only 23 and has had many hamstring problems in the last few years. He needs to pay attention a little bit about what is going on in his body but we are here to help him. It is a minor injury and in a few more weeks we hope he will be ready.”

Blow for Tottenham Hotspur

Alli was not at his best last season, but there is no doubt that the midfielder is a key figure for Tottenham.

The Englishman missing the start of the new campaign is a blow for Spurs in their quest to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title.
