Dele Alli earned Tottenham Hotspur a penalty during their 5-0 win over Swansea City yesterday.
Mauricio Pochettino was not prepared to give his opinion on whether Tottenham Hotspur should have been awarded a penalty against Swansea City yesterday, as per his comments on ESPN.
Spurs took the lead against Swansea from the spot, and they went on to win the encounter 5-0.
However, despite a good performance, much of the talk after the game was over whether Dele Alli dived to win Spurs the spot kick.
Alli seemed to manoeuvre himself into a position to go down under any contact from Kyle Naughton.
However, Pochettino said his immediate reaction after Tottenham were awarded the penalty was to turn to his assistant, Jesus Perez, and ask whether he thought the referee had made the correct decision.
“I didn’t see it. From the first moment, I asked Jesus [Perez] and my other assistants what happened. Was it was a corner, a foul, a penalty — I didn’t know!,” Pochettino admitted.
“From my position it’s impossible to see and I haven’t had the chance to see on TV yet. It’s impossible to give my opinion.”
After Harry Kane dispatched the spot kick, Spurs went on to seal a comprehensive victory.
Heung Min-Son scored a brilliant goal, before Kane got on the scoresheet again and Christian Eriksen also had time to bag himself a brace.
Tottenham are now in fifth place in the Premier League table, with their next league match coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
