Roma win chase for Cengiz Under, who had been linked to Spurs.
Tottenham Hotspur are yet to make their move this summer in the transfer window – and time is ticking before the season gets underway in less than a month.
Over the past 24 hours they have missed out on one of the first names linked to the club this summer, Turkish winger Cengiz Under.
Tottenham were claimed earlier this summer to have struck a deal to sign the player, with Turkish outlet Ajanspor reporting a move was close.
Under played alongside Emmanuel Adebayor at Istanbul Basaksehir last season, who finished second in the Turkish Super Lig.
The youngster played a key role in that and has earned four caps for his country, scoring twice.
Roma sporting director Monchi
Roma sporting director Monchi told the club’s website: “We are extremely happy with the arrival of Cengiz, a player with great technical ability.
“We are confident he will quickly adjust to his new surroundings and his quality and talent will be a valuable addition to our squad.”
Tottenham have already missed out on Wilfried Zaha, Douglas Costa, and Bruma this summer, with top target Thomas Lemar seemingly also not for sale.
Cengiz Under could have been a low risk option available at a small price.
Perhaps Tottenham have had too many of those in recent seasons, and have somebody better lined up.
But for now, fans wait for chairman Daniel Levy to belatedly spring into action.
