Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in signing Ronnie Edwards has now been confirmed by Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry.
Edwards, 19, emerged with Barnet before Peterborough swooped in with a 2020 deal.
Edwards had only played five times for Barnet but had clearly done enough to impress the Posh.
After just six appearances last season, Edwards has become a star for Peterborough this season, nailing down a first-team role.
Now an England Under-19 international, Edwards is being backed for a huge future – and there is major Premier League interest emerging.
The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are both keen on signing Edwards.
It’s noted that Edwards is likely to cost a huge £15million with Peterborough hoping to rake in a huge fee.
Peterborough tend to sell well, bringing in big fees for players like Britt Assombalonga, Dwight Gayle, Jack Marriott and Ivan Toney in years gone by.
In the case of Edwards though, Peterborough are expecting him to cost more than any of those listed.
Director of football Barry Fry has told the Peterborough Telegraph that a deal for Edwards would ‘smash’ the £10million deal for Toney in 2020.
Fry even claims there was huge interest last summer – before he had even kicked a ball in the Championship!
Fry adds that Tottenham have been watching Edwards for a long time, confirming that Spurs are in the mix for a big signing.

However, one huge German club is also interested – and you would have to look at the likes of Borussia Dortmund or RB Leipzig for that kind of move.
Fry added that he would want Edwards back on loan as part of any deal, so Tottenham now know what it will take to get a deal done.
“That record would be smashed if we were to sell Ronnie,” Fry said. “There was plenty of interest in him before he started playing regularly in the Championship and that interest will only grow further when he plays for England in the summer.
“Spurs have been watching him for a long time, but so have other clubs. There is a big German club showing interest which is no real surprise as they love to take young English players and develop them.”
“I’m not saying he will be sold as we haven’t had our planning meetings for next season yet, but, if he was to leave, ideally he’d go and be loaned straight back to us for a year. Nothing is likely to happen anyway until Ronnie comes back from his tournament this summer,” he added
