Wrong in all probability, but the Gareth Bale to Barcelona rumours have started up again.
That didn’t take long did it.
The second Tottenham realistically look like missing out on the top four, Barcelona are being linked with a swoop for star player Gareth Bale.
The Daily Mail are the ones running the story, claiming Pep Guardiola’s side are preparing a £30 million bid.
It is predictable of the tabloids to run a ‘Bale leaving’ story every time Spurs go through a rocky patch.
There may even be some truth in it, who knows, but we can’t see Bale leaving.
For Tottenham, he is the one player they will not want to see go, and Daniel Levy won’t allow it to happen, not after a season in which they have come so close.
There is all to play for this season though, and Bale can inspire Spurs to finish in the top four.
Even if they miss out on Champions League football we don’t see him going.
Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart are different, both may seek moves if they miss out on the top four, and if a huge bid comes in, the club may decide to reluctantly accept and rebuild.
If it does though they’d have to get it done early, and not have a Fabregas/Nasri situation which ruined Arsenal’s summer last season, or even a repeat of last season’s saga with Modric which left the club hamstrung at the start of the season.
Bale will be the subject of a lot of speculation, whether it be Real Madrid, Barcelona or Inter Milan, but it would be a huge shock if he left.
For Spurs fans, listening to the rumours will be unsettling and most of all annoying, but it will be the price of failure to have to endure them.
They should though not lose sleep over his departure, Bale seems happy at White Hart Lane, and he will be the cornerstone of the Spurs side for years to come.
Letting him go would be utter madness.
