Tottenham Hotspur are now chasing Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni – and his former agent is now comparing him to Paul Pogba.
Tottenham’s interest in Tchouameni deal
Calciomercato reported this week that Tottenham are joining the race to sign Tchouameni.
The France international is wanted by a host of clubs and would allegedly cost in the region of £35million to sign in January.
Fabio Paratici has already raided French football to sign a midfielder, with Metz star Pape Matar Sarr properly arriving next summer.
Tottenham could now team him up with Tchouameni, though he is another player who can play as a holding or box-to-box player.
Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg can play a similar role, which may leave Tottenham fans questioning such a move.
Tchouameni compared to Pogba
Tchouameni has real buzz around him right now, and his former agent has been speaking over in Spain.
Gregoire Akcelrod used to represent Tchouameni, discovering him over in France.
Akcelrod has now told Marca of how he came to represent Tchouameni, comparing him to Paul Pogba in the process.
Akcelrod claims Tchouameni asked him to be his agent, and dazzled him in training – even if Akcelrod initially mistook him for somebody else!
“In the summer of 2015, when he was 15 years old, a boy I represent tells me that his roommate wanted to see me and to represent him. I spoke to him, his name was Aurélien and he dazzled me with his maturity,” said Akcelrod.
“He told me to go see him train. There was hardly any light and I noticed a boy with the yellow boots that I thought was him. He seemed like an ordinary player. I liked another one with the pink boots. I was about to leave, but out of courtesy I decided to stay. ‘This boy looks like Pogba’ , I thought of the one with the pink boots. When the training was over I went to say goodbye to him and, to my surprise, he was the owner of those pink boots.’I won the lottery!’ I thought,” he added.
If Tottenham can sign Tchouameni and he becomes a player of Pogba’s quality, they would surely be delighted.
