Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur have joined Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in the race for Rodrigo Bentancur, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter that Tottenham have asked Juventus about signing Bentancur on a loan deal in the January transfer window until the end of the season.
Italian giants Juventus are not accepting the proposal from Tottenham.
Tottenham’s move for the Uruguay international midfielder comes after Villa had a bid for the former Boca Juniors star turned down.
Earlier today, Sky Sports reported that Villa made a bid of £16.5 million plus more than £4 million in bonuses.
Juventus rejected it.
The former Italian champions reportedly want £21 million upfront for Bentancur.

Tottenham Hotspur unlikely to succeed with Rodrigo Bentancur
In our view, it is unlikely that Tottenham will be able to sign Bentancur on loan from Juventus.
If Juventus have already turned down a permanent offer from Villa and want £21 million upfront for the 24-year-old, then, in our opinion, a loan deal is not going to appeal really.
Bentancur has made 13 starts and six substitute appearances in Serie A for Juventus so far this season.
The midfielder has provided two assists in those games.
