Tottenham Hotspur could receive a boost in the coming days with Rodrigo Bentancur potentially returning from injury sooner than expected.
Tottenham are in action tonight as they take on Middlesbrough in the FA Cup with Antonio Conte seeking a lengthy run in the competition.
Conte is likely to make changes for tonight’s game in order to rotate his squad, but he will be without midfielder Bentancur again.
Bentancur had a nasty slip against Burnley last week and was substituted at half time having suffered an injury to his leg.
The London Evening Standard noted that Bentancur was facing around three weeks out of action, leaving Conte without his January signing.
However, there could be positive news coming with Bentancur after a revelation from Conte ahead of the Middlesbrough clash.
Conte has told Tottenham’s official website that Bentancur is ‘improving’ after his injury and looks likely to be available after the Middlesbrough game.
“Bentancur is improving,” said Conte. “I think that, after this game, he can be back with us.” he added.
That means Bentancur would end up missing just two games and only one in the Premier League if Conte is correct.
Having expected to be missing Bentancur for a chunk of March, it instead looks like he will be back in action just over a week after his injury.

That’s a huge boost for Conte, who has been left short in midfield with Bentancur joining Oliver Skipp on the treatment table.
Bentancur joined Tottenham from Juventus on deadline day in January and has immediately made a big impact.
Elegant on the ball and more than willing to get stuck in, Bentancur looks like the kind of all-round midfielder Tottenham have been seeking.
With Tottenham chasing a top four place, Bentancur’s earlier-than-expected return offers a timely piece of good news for Spurs.
