Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make a big push to make Antonio Conte their new manager once they have brought Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign to an end.
That’s according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, one of the most reputable sources in Italy.
Di Marzio claims that Tottenham are considering sacking Nuno in the wake of Saturday’s 3-0 thrashing by Manchester United.
Di Marzio adds that Tottenham are ‘ready to press on’ with a move to finally land Conte. The former Chelsea boss turned down a move to North London over the summer.
The report even claims that Conte could actually say yes this time in what would be a staggering coup for Tottenham.
Conte of course needs guarantees from Tottenham about their goals and the budget at his disposal, but it’s suggested that Conte could seriously accept a move.
Conte wants a return to management and with Manchester United backing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Tottenham is seen as the next realistic route.
Add in that Conte worked with Fabio Paratici at Juventus and this move would make some sense in many aspects.
Yet still you wonder just why Conte would jump at the chance to manage this Tottenham side.
Tottenham look disjointed and unable to create chances from open play, and look a million miles away from winning silverware.
Conte is a hired winner; he won three league titles at Juventus, he won the Premier League in his first season at Chelsea and ended last season as a Serie A champion with Inter.
Tottenham seem to have hope this time, but just how they convince five-time title-winner Conte that they can win trophies remains to be seen.
