Christian Eriksen was a fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur and worked under Antonio Conte – but a potential reunion has been played down.

Tottenham really find their own ‘Great Dane’ after signing Eriksen from Ajax in 2013.

Of the famed ‘Bale seven’ – players Tottenham signed in the summer they sold Gareth Bale to Real Madrid – Eriksen was the most successful.

Eriksen racked up 305 appearances for Tottenham, hitting 69 goals and 90 assists.

Tottenham let Eriksen leave for Inter Milan in January 2020, meaning he joined forces with now-Spurs boss Conte.

Earlier this month, Inter released Eriksen. The 29-year-old suffered cardiac arrest during Euro 2020, and having been fitted with an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defribrillator), he is no longer able to play in Italy.

With Eriksen available for nothing, some have wondered whether he will end up back at Tottenham and back with Conte.

However, Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has told Spilxperten that a move to Tottenham will not be possible for Eriksen.

Di Marzio noted that Eriksen had difficulties under Conte in the past, particularly in terms of the intensity under the Italian.

Di Marzio added that Conte’s demands are just too much for Eriksen in his current situation, recommending a return to Denmark or the Netherlands instead.

“I do not think it will be possible,” said Di Marzio. “Tottenham have started a new era under Antonio Conte. Even though Conte was his coach at Inter, because he had a lot of difficulties in the beginning, about understanding how to play and how intense it is under Antonio.”

“What Antonio Conte demands of his players is too much for Christian. He needs weeks and months to get back to the right rhythm and intensity. The Premier League is a tournament that is not waiting for you. It is impossible for him to get fit to play in such a club with that intensity right away.

So I think Denmark or the Netherlands will be the best solution for him,” he added.
