Tottenham Hotspur want Alessandro Bastoni but his agents are now reflecting on the offer of a new contract from Italian giants Inter Milan.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that Tottenham remain near the front of the queue for Bastoni’s signature.

Tottenham were very keen on Bastoni over the summer as Antonio Conte targeted a reunion with with his former Inter defender.

Spurs seemingly haven’t given up hope but Conte faces a battle with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who is also very interested.

Inter are desperate to keep Bastoni though and have now offered him a new contract to stay at the San Siro.

The 23-year-old currently earns around €3million-a-year (£50,000-a-week) but Inter are now offering him a new deal worth €4.5million-a-year (£75,000-a-week).

Bastoni’s representatives haven’t committed to signing that deal just yet and have gone away for a period of reflection.

Bastoni would be ideal for Tottenham but deal seems unlikely

Tottenham are certainly in the market for a new left-footed centre back in 2023.

Clement Lenglet is only on loan from Barcelona and it’s unclear whether Tottenham fancy keeping him around.

Ben Davies has fared well as a left-sided centre back under Conte but may not be the future of that position for the Italian.

There have been links to RB Leipzig star Josko Gvardiol too but Bastoni would be ideal.

The Italian knows Conte well from their time together at Inter and securing one of the top young centre backs in Europe would show that Tottenham really mean business.

It’s just hard to see Inter selling Bastoni any time soon and even if they do, Manchester City may be favourites because of the money they can offer.

Bastoni joining Tottenham would be quite the coup but striking a deal – both with Inter and with the player himself – could prove very tricky.
