Tottenham Hotspur’s links to Wilmar Barrios aren’t going away.

Tottenham Hotspur fans are more than familiar with Boca Juniors ace Wilmar Barrios at this point, with speculation mounting yet again.
The timeline of Tottenham and Barrios’s on-off love affair goes like this; during the World Cup, The Independent reported that Spurs were in the process of signing Barrios, but Boca begged him to stay until the end of the Copa Libertadores – which he did.
El Crack Deportivo then revived the rumour in November, suggesting that a £20million deal for Barrios to join Spurs was close, before ESPN reported that no deal would be going through.
If you thought that was the end of it, then brace yourself: Don Balon in Spain now report that Barrios is once again close to joining Spurs.
Their reporter Martina Miranda has often written stories about Colombian internationals, and claims that Barrios has chosen a move to Tottenham either this month or in the summer at the latest.
It’s added that an agreement appears close, with Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele among the players likely to be sold to make way for the 25-year-old.

That all seems pretty believable, with Tottenham’s links to Barrios not going away, and the fact that Mauricio Pochettino could certainly stand to add some grit and bite to his midfield with Wanyama out of the picture.
Barrios would bring that in spades, but his hot-head nature is a concern; after all, he was even sent off in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final against River Plate last month.
Intriguingly, Doble Amarilla reported just days ago that Boca have interest in one Spurs player, as they want Juan Foyth on loan – and whilst that move is unlikely, it may just be proposed if the club are discussing a Barrios deal after all.
