Tottenham midfielder ‘dropped a s’ from his name and reveals why.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele has admitted he changed his name by dropping an ‘s’ and it was not deliberate.
Speaking to Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, Dembele said that it was not intentional on his part.
He said: “It is with one s. I used to write it twice, but at some point I had to renew my passport and then they made a mistake.
“Then there was one s and I always left it that way afterwards. So that’s how it became Mousa.”

Indeed when Dembele signed for Fulham in 2010, BBC Sport reported the club signing ‘Moussa Dembele’.
At the time he was referred to as a striker after scoring 10 goals for AZ Alkmaar, so today he really is a very different player.
It was at Fulham where Martin Jol converted him into a central midfielder, and he earned a move to Tottenham.
By time he signed for the Lilywhites he had become ‘Mousa’, with BBC Sport citing him with one ‘s’ upon his 2012 transfer.
The name change at least provides some differentiation between the Tottenham star and Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, who also had a spell at Fulham.
